Editorial Reviews:

To say there has been a lot of anticipation for Coldplay's fourth album, Viva La Vida, is an understatement. Having enlisted legendary leftfield producer Brian Eno, borrowed their album title from a painting by renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and made tantalising remarks about sonic reinvention, the world has been curious (to say the least) to hear what the `new' Coldplay might sound like. Viva La Vida definitely makes some departures from the band's usual formula, which happens to be one of the most commercially successful rock-pop blueprints of recent years. The plangent chords, emotive melodies, stadium-rock rhythms and universal lyrical concerns remain, but Martin and co. have gone out on several limbs here, incorporating instrumental tracks ("Life In Technicolour"), using subtle North African and Latin elements ("Yes", "Strawberry Swing"), and overhauling previously strict verse-chorus-verse structures in favour of slightly more avant arrangements. The old Coldplay still shine through (see tracks like "Violet Hill" and the title song) but even their classic sound feels more muscular and confident. The band's new flourishes, cosmetic and self-conscious as they may be, are enough to make Viva La Vida a welcome break from the old routine --Danny McKenna

People en Espanol
--Ernesto Sanchez (People en Espanol People en Espanol)

3 out of 5 stars I'm partially happy...   October 5, 2008
I was wondering why it doesn't have lyrics with the CD... Maybe that's the reason for selling cds for a price a litte bit lower than in the other stores.
I like the songs... It's not as good as X&Y but is a great album.
I do recommend it, but be aware that it doesn't have any lyrics as a "bonus".

1 out of 5 stars underwhelming   October 5, 2008
The pre-release buzz around 'Viva La Vida' was similar to that of U2's, 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb'. While HTDAAB delivered, Viva La Vida falls way short. The tracks are lifeless and over-produced with little dynamics or excitement. Part of it is the mix - Chris and piano are up front along with strings and other keyboard parts while the rest of the band are moved way to back. Jon Buckland's contributions are most notably muted or absent. The result sounds like a Chris Martin solo project. Regardless, the first minute and a half of '42' are pure bliss.

5 out of 5 stars love this newest CD from Coldplay   October 3, 2008
I am a big fan of Coldplay anyway, but really enjoy their new CD, especially the title song, Viva La Vida. It makes me just want to get up and dance along with the music and I am an "older" fan so it probably isn't pretty when I do. :)
Coldplay's music is just so vibrant and has such an energy to it, that I love to listen to them!

5 out of 5 stars Viva La Vida CD   October 3, 2008
I really like Coldplay's new CD Viva La Vida. All the songs are very good.

5 out of 5 stars Si a La Vida !!!   October 3, 2008
Well, I have been not been reviewing music in a while, but this deserves the time to say, YES! Viva la Vida is everything that I have been missing lately in music. Thank you Chris Martin & company for mixing things up a bit. X & Y was indeed delightful and helped me to gain an admiration; but I can not say enough about this little gem. Strawberry Swing inspires me to just get up and dance!
